Arlene, you're in for an unexpected treat! The rare Cameron documentary, 'The Wormwood Star', is being shown in Seattle on August 13, along with several other films of Thelemic interest. I hope you will be able to attend and report back on what's shown!

In one of his interviews Kenneth Anger mentions being approached to direct his first commercial feature film - based on the life of his friend Jack Parsons. Presumably the film would have concentrated on the Babalon working. Nothing further seems to have come of it.

Incidentally, the late Hollywood director Curtis Harrington (who made 'Night Tide' in which Cameron made a brief appearance) made a short documentary about Cameron and her artwork, called IIRC 'Wormwood'. I haven't been able to locate a copy. Has anyone here seen it?

The performance at RADA is the only one so far. I did draft a film treatment but, as I explain in the interview, it didn't get very far. At least two other plays have been written about Parsons. One is by Barry Kavanagh, whom I met via the Babalon Working Group. (We collaborated on another project for TV, which never happened). I don't think his play - which was pretty good - has been performed. Barry's in Oslo now, mostly involved in music.

The other was by an American, who had a short fringe-type production in New York - I don't know any more than that.

I heard of a friend of a friend who had some involvement with the Process back in the 60s and apparently it didn't do her much good...

The wife called Parsifal... extraordinary...

Maxine Sanders talks about the Process folks in her autobiography Firechild. She has nothing good to say about them. I actually heard they were a spin off from Scientology.
I met one of these guys shortly after I arrived in England in 1998. Someone in Seattle knew this guy and thought he would be interested in my Tarot deck. He was a total alcoholic with the ditsiest wife he called Pasifal I think because she was such a fool. He kept going on about how my artwork wasn't sexual. Obviously he is spiritually bankrupt with no real understanding polarity or he wouldn't have said that.

Will have to check my copy of 'Helter Skelter' if can locate it. I suspect the Manson/OTO connection stems from Ed Sanders in 'The Family' trying to link Manson to the Church of the Process, a suggestion taken up by Maury Terry in his sensationalist works. I know the Process was influenced by Crowley because I attended a performance of the 'Hymn to Pan' at their Mayfair hq.
All these cross-fertilisations are a boon to conspiracy theorists!

Paul, has 'Babalon' been performed anywhere since the production Arlene appeared in? (You probably cover that in the interview...)

Years ago I read a book on Manson by Vincent Bugliosi, one of the lawyers on the case, who stated that Manson had casual contact with the "Solar Lodge", quite possibly some renegade offshoot of the OTO. A woman called Jean Brayton (?) was mentioned. Perhaps he was checking it out...

I'm pleased to hear you liked the performance - much credit should go to the cast! Alas, the play was dropped by the BBC, as I explain in my talk with Arlene.

Is there any reliable evidence that Manson was ever a member of the OTO? Sounds like an unsubstantiated rumour. I know he attended a couple of Scientology meetings but I don't think he got much beyond 'checking it out.'
Might be worth writing and asking him!
The Babalon play was certainly an enthralling and memorable evening, and I'm looking forward to the interview with Paul. Am I right in thinking that the play was originally performed as a BBC radio drama?
